Grading Policy
Physical Education assesses all 3 domains of the child: cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Students are assessed and graded in all three areas as follows:
Skill Assessments - (Psychomotor, and cognitive) 70%
Each unit the student will be assessed on 3-4 skills. Students are taught the skills and provided time with different activities to practice the skills, not in a game when you rarely get to touch the ball. Students are usually assessed one at a time with the teacher while receiving feedback on performance. If the student does not show mastery at the time of assessment he or she is told to keep practicing. Assessments can be redone in the next class (if time), during recess, or before and after school (by appointment).
**NOTE: There may be other extenuatiing circumstances that I may allow alternative methods of assessment. For example, if a child has an extreme fear of performing in front of others they have the option of performing at home and having a sibling or parent videotape the performance. They can then send me the video via email or bring it in on a thumbdrive.
It is also understood that students are at different levels of ability and have different learning styles and paces. They are constantly reminded that they should not try to compete with others, rather to compete with yourself, to constantly strive to reach your goals and better yourself.
Daily Grade - (Affective) 20%
Just showing up to class dressed in shorts and a T-shirt is NOT enough to get you an A. Students must take an active role in their learning. They must be able to control their actions, respect others, be prepared for class, follow directions, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and work well with others.
Homework - (Cognitive) 10%
Students will track hours of exercise, set goals, monitor goals, use higher order thinking and analyze their performance.
